Incorporated on December 8, 1999 in Virginia, the Young American Broadcasters is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating America’s next generation of talented and ethical broadcast journalists.

Since our founding nearly a decade ago, the goal of Young American Broadcasters has been to provide training and technical support to America’s future print and broadcast journalists. Cynicism of the media, the purported watchdog of our government, only serves to undermine the reputation and function of the Fourth Estate. A hopeful future lies in the next generation of print and broadcast journalists.

To date, YAB has trained more than 1,000 college students; provided internship opportunities for students in conjunction with College Media News; convened major conferences tackling the issues of the day with respect to journalism and freedom of speech; and, awarded more than 20 merit and need-based scholarships to students of journalism.

Our success is not measured in dollars, but rather within the achievements of our alumni and the limitless potential of our current students. We are so proud that many YAB students have gone on to prestigious careers in broadcast and print journalism. For example, Ben Ferguson, from the University of Mississippi is the youngest nationally-syndicated radio personality in the United States at the age of 26, and Ben Lando, from Western Michigan University is Energy Editor for United Press International (UPI).

Young American Broadcasters will work with the finest schools of journalism and communications, reaching out to more students that will soon begin careers in all facets of print and broadcast journalism. We provide a challenging, comprehensive training curriculum and meaningful networking opportunities with professional broadcasters, through internships, regional conferences and seminars. We urge you to join us in this most important endeavor. Now, more than ever, we must cultivate, support and train higher education communications and journalism students to help ensure that they have the skills, tools and opportunities they need to become tomorrow’s ethical journalists.
